Special Representative on Mediterranean Affairs

Considering the need to develop stronger links between the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly and the Mediterranean Partners for Co-operation, the President of the OSCE PA appointed a Special Representative on Mediterranean Affairs, Mr. Alcee L. Hastings, to report to him on developments in this field.

Mr. Hastings served as President of the Assembly from 2004 to 2006 after having served as Vice-President, Chair and Vice-Chair of the First General Committee, as well as two terms as Committee Rapporteur. He currently also serves as the Assembly's Special Representative on Mediterranean Affairs.

First elected to the U.S. Congress in 1992, Mr. Hastings has been re-elected seven times. He is the Chairman of the U.S. (Helsinki) Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe.

Mandate:

• Enhance the Mediterranean dimension, given that European security is directly linked to security and stability in the Mediterranean area
• Maintain contacts with Mediterranean Partners and participate in events related to supporting relations between the Mediterranean area and the OSCE
• Consider instruments for stimulating th e   Organization of a Mediterranean Forum under the auspices of the OSCE  Parliamentary Assembly
