Fall Meetings
Each year the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly organizes a set of Fall Meetings to enhance inter-parliamentary dialogue on important topics related to OSCE commitments and values. The Meetings include a Conference on a topical issue, a session of the Assembly's Standing Committee of Heads of Delegations and typically also a meeting of the Mediterranean Forum.
2010 Fall Meetings in Palermo
The 2010 Fall Meetings will take place in Palermo, Sicily, from 8-11 October 2010. Hosted by the Sicilian Regional Assembly, the Fall Meetings include a meeting of the Standing Committee, the Mediterranean Forum and a Conference.
Featured speakers at this year's Fall Meetings include Francesco Cascio, President of the Sicilian Regional Assembly; Petros Efthymiou, President of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly; Alcee Hastings, OSCE PA Special Representative on Mediterranean Affairs; Altero Matteoli, Italian Minister for Infrastructure and Transportation, and Riccardo Migliori, OSCE PA Vice-President and Head of the Italian delegation to the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly.
Available to the right are registration and hotel reservation forms and other practical information for the meetings, as well as a draft programme in English. The programme will also be available in French and Russian soon.
2009 Fall Meetings in Athens
Under the theme of Energy Security and Environment, almost 200 members from 50 countries of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly met in Athens for the Fall Meetings 9 to 12 October.
“Long-term sustainability, energy security, and environmental solutions must be viewed hand-in-hand,” said President Joao Soares in his conclusions of the Meetings. “Our responses cannot be successful if only enacted on a national level; they must be broad in their scope and approach.”
2008 Fall Meetings in Toronto
The OSCE PA’s 2008 Fall Meetings took place from 18 to 21 September in Toronto, hosted by the Parliament of Canada. The meetings included a major inter-parliamentary conference focused on ‘The OSCE in an Open World: Trade, Migration, and Security.’ Bringing together Members of Parliaments from across the OSCE’s 56 countries, the conference contributed to parliamentary dialogue on these important topics.
2007 Fall Meetings in Portoroz
From 29 September to 1 October, parliamentarians from across the OSCE met in Portoroz, Slovenia, for the Assembly’s annual Fall Meetings. The meetings consisted of a conference, a meeting of the Standing Committee, and a Forum on the Mediterranean. The parliamentary conference, organized within the Parliamentary Troika of the Stability Pact for Southeastern Europe, focused on ‘Security Through Co-operation in South East Europe: The Role of Parliamentarians’.
2006 Fall Meetings in Malta
From 17 to 19 November 2006, the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly met in Malta for its annual Fall Meetings. The meetings brought together more than 250 participants from 51 countries for a conference, Mediterranean Forum and meeting of the Assembly’s Standing Committee. The meetings were addressed by senior representatives from Malta, the OSCE and other countries in the region. Special guest representatives from Libya also participated in the OSCE PA meetings for the first time.
2005 Fall Meetings in Sveti-Stefan
Beginning on 7 October 2005, parliamentarians from across the OSCE region gathered for three days in Sveti-Stefan, Montenegro, to debate questions of good governance in multi-ethnic societies in the annual OSCE PA Fall Conference. The Assembly also held a meeting of its Standing Committee of Heads of Delegations and of the Mediterranean Forum on the following two days.
2004 Fall Meetings in Rhodes
More than 130 parliamentarians from 43 participating States took part in the 2004 OSCE PA Fall Meetings, which were held in Rhodes, Greece, from 29 September to 1 October 2004. The Fall Meetings consisted of the Conference on Trafficking in Human Beings, a meeting of the Standing Committee and the 2nd OSCE PA Parliamentary Forum on the Mediterranean.
2003 Fall Meetings in Rome
More than 160 parliamentarians from 49 participating States took part in the 2003 OSCE PA Fall Meetings, which were held in Rome from 9-11 October 2003. The Meetings included a two-day Conference on Religious Freedom, which consisted of a series of presentations and discussions focusing on the law and politics of religious freedom, religious tolerance in pluralistic societies and religious freedom and democracy.
2002 Fall Meetings in Madrid
On the 3rd and 4th of October, 2002, in the Spanish Parliament in Madrid, the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly held a Conference dedicated to ensuring peace, democracy and prosperity in the region of the Mediterranean. Close to 150 parliamentarians took part in the Conference, representing over 40 countries, including parliamentarians from Mediterranean Partner States. In addition, a number of expert guest speakers gave interventions addressing a variety of Mediterranean security concerns. The Conference was hosted by the Spanish Parliament, and chaired by the President of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, Bruce George.
