Coruz and Ferrier discuss rule of law and migration in Ukraine visit

COPENHAGEN, 1 March 2012 – Third Committee Rapporteur Coskun Coruz and Special Representative on Migration Kathleen Ferrier visited the OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Ukraine, Amb. Lubomir Kopaj, 20-22 February to discuss rule of law and migration. In meetings with Amb. Kopaj and two Ukrainian Supreme Court judges they discussed the independence of the judiciary in Ukraine and OSCE projects to train judges.

Coruz and Ferrier, members of the Dutch OSCE PA delegation, also met with representatives of several NGOs, including the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung, the International Renaissance Foundation and the East Europe Foundation, to discuss their work in capacity building for political parties and local governments. They also met with media representatives to discuss freedom of the media and with the African Center to learn about the situation of African migrants in Ukraine.

Mecacci addresses Human Dimension Committee in preparation for Ministerial Council

Matteo-Mecacci-Third-Committee-Chair-Vienna-151111VIENNA, 15 November 2011 – In a continuation of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly's efforts to forge closer co-operation with the OSCE's governmental side in Vienna, Matteo Mecacci, chair of the OSCE PA's Committee on Democracy, Human Rights and Humanitarian Questions, met with his counterpart committee Monday and outlined several ways the upcoming Ministerial Council could benefit from parliamentary input.

Addressing the OSCE's Human Dimension Committee meeting, Mecacci drew attention to the work of the OSCE PA on democracy and human rights, and urged the Ministerial decisions to reflect the fact that the political priorities of our organization are "in direct connection with the problems faced by our people."
