KYRIAKOS HADIYIANNI (CYPRUS)
OSCE PA President Margareta Cederfelt (Sweden) appointed Kyriakos Hadjiyianni (Cyprus) as Special Representative on Civil Society Engagement in August 2021.
Hadjiyianni previously served as Chair and Rapporteur of the General Committee on Democracy, Human Rights and Humanitarian Questions. First elected Rapporteur at the 2016 Annual Session in Tbilisi, he was re-elected twice, and became Chair in 2019. He has been a Member of the House of Representatives of Cyprus since 2006, where he serves as Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Educational Affairs and Culture. He is also a Member of the Committee on Refugees-Enclaved-Missing-Adversely Affected Persons.
As Special Representative on Civil Society Engagement, Hadjiyianni works in consultation with other OSCE PA Members engaging with representatives of non-governmental organizations and advise on ways for the Assembly to ensure an inclusive approach to representatives of civil society.
The position of Special Representative on Civil Society Engagement was created in 2019 to promote co-operation between the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly and representatives of civil society.
MANDATE
- Promote co-operation and serve as a focal point for engagement between the OSCE PA and representatives of civil society and non-governmental organizations;
- Work in consultation with other OSCE PA Members engaging in work with representatives of civil society and non-governmental organizations;
- Advise on ways for the Assembly to ensure an inclusive approach to representatives of civil society and non-governmental organizations and on the implementation of Assembly practices in these matters as well as on the development of new policies and approaches;
- Advise on engagement with non-governmental organizations’ contributions to OSCE PA meetings and associated events.
