Kyrgyzstan hosts International Independent Commission for investigation of events in the south

Kyrgyzstan hosts International Independent Commission for investigation of events broke out in the south of the country. This was announced today by its chairman and Special Representative for Central Asia of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly Kimmo Kiljunen.

According to him, the Commission has both international and domestic support. "The Kyrgyz government gave consent for our work," said Kimmo Kiljunen.

He stated that such studies were conducted in many countries hit by ethnic clashes. The task of the Commission is to serve for the country, to create a basis of trust and cooperation, stability in Kyrgyzstan.

"The study will be based not on rumors, but on the facts," said Kimmo Kiljunen. "We will not conduct a criminal investigation."

The Commission is going to publish a report in late February 2011.
