Federica Onori addresses students at University of Copenhagen, 28 April 2026COPENHAGEN, 28 April 2026 – Italian parliamentarian Federica Onori, the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly’s Special Representative on Artificial Intelligence, conducted an official visit to Copenhagen on Tuesday, engaging with students, academics, and leading experts on the governance, ethics, and societal impact of artificial intelligence.
The visit, organized in connection with the Special Representative’s attendance at the OSCE PA Bureau meeting on Monday, highlighted the Assembly’s commitment to fostering international dialogue on responsible AI development and its implications for human rights and democratic institutions.
The programme began at University of Copenhagen, where the Special Representative delivered an address to students enrolled in the course “Human Rights, Democracy, and Digital Technology.” The lecture focused on the intersection of emerging technologies and fundamental rights, emphasizing the need for democratic oversight and accountability in AI systems.
This was followed by a discussion with representatives from academia, including experts from the University’s Law Department. The exchange centered on key challenges in AI governance, ethical frameworks, regulatory approaches, and the practical implementation of AI-related policies across jurisdictions.
“If we want AI governance to be truly democratic, we cannot afford to have this conversation only among policymakers and industry leaders,” said Special Representative Onori. “Bringing these issues into universities, engaging with students and researchers, and investing in the next generation of experts is not optional: it is essential. Young people will live longest with the consequences of the decisions we make today, and their voices must be part of shaping them.”
The visit underscored the OSCE PA’s ongoing efforts to engage with diverse stakeholders in promoting human-centric AI governance and reinforcing democratic values in the digital age.
