Italian Delegation hosts OSCE PA Secretary General in Rome

2014-VISIT-Rome-RSO-RomaniOSCE PA Secretary General Spencer Oliver (left) addresses members of Italy's Delegation to the PA in the Italian Parliament as Delegation Head Paolo Romani looks on, 5 June.COPENHAGEN, 6 June 2014 – On the invitation of Senator Paolo Romani of Italy, OSCE Parliamentary Assembly Secretary General Spencer Oliver visited Rome this week for meetings with the Italian Delegation to the PA.

Oliver addressed the Delegation in the Italian Parliament and discussed the PA's upcoming Annual Session in Baku, which will be held 28 June-2 July. They also discussed the latest developments in the Ukraine crisis and the PA's recent election observation mission to the country.

The parliamentarians exchanged views with Oliver on proposed resolutions and supplementary items that will be up for voting at the 23rd Annual Session ahead of the adoption of the Baku Declaration. The Declaration, to be agreed by more than 300 MPs, will contain policy recommendations for the OSCE and its 57 participating States in the fields of political affairs, security, economics, the environment and human rights. At the close of the Session, the Assembly will hold elections to choose its President, several Vice-Presidents and committee officers. Oliver and the Italian Delegation members also discussed the possibility for Italy to host an OSCE PA Annual Session in the coming years.

Senator Luigi Compagna and other members of the Delegation also hosted Oliver at a working dinner. The Secretary General was accompanied on his visit by Director of Presidential Administration Roberto Montella.
