COPENHAGEN, 29 August 2026 – OSCE Parliamentary Assembly President Pere Joan Pons (Spain) today strongly condemned the latest large-scale Russian attacks against Ukraine, including the devastating strike in the Bucha district of the Kyiv region, where some 40 people have been reported killed and 42 injured, including four children.

“The scale of these latest attacks and their tragic human consequences are deeply alarming. My thoughts are with the victims, their families and all those affected,” President Pons said. “Beyond the immediate tragedy, these attacks appear to confirm an increasingly worrying pattern of intensified Russian escalation.”

President Pons recalled the concerns he raised already in June, when he warned of the serious risks posed by Russia’s continued escalation of its war of aggression against Ukraine.

“Unfortunately, developments since then have reinforced those concerns. This dangerous trajectory must be reversed. Russia must cease its attacks, respect its obligations under international law and engage seriously in efforts towards de-escalation.”

President Pons reiterated the Parliamentary Assembly’s unwavering support for Ukraine’s sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders.
