Belarus-sponsored resolution "Promotion and use of new and renewable source of energy" was adopted by an absolute majority of votes at a meeting of the General Committee on Economic Affairs, Science, Technology and Environment at the 21st annual session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly held in Monaco from 5 to 9 July, BelTA learnt from the press service of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly.

A total of 41 of 17 member states of the OSCE supported the submission of the draft to the agenda of the session.

The resolution became the basis for constructive discussion of global development of new and renewable sources of energy. Statements in support of the draft resolution were made by MPs from Armenia, Austria, Canada, Germany, Malta, Tajikistan, Switzerland and Sweden.

When introducing the resolution, the head of the delegation of the Parliament of Belarus in the OSCE PA, Vice-Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly Viktor Guminsky stated that the development of alternative energy will enhance energy security and sustainable economic development in the OSCE region.

"Green" energy development in the OSCE region is directly dependent on the solution of problems related to the development, transfer and deployment of technologies for the use of alternative and renewable energy sources.

The Committee on Democracy, Human Rights and Humanitarian Affairs reviewed the drafts of additional resolutions, including a draft resolution on Belarus. In its statement, the Belarusian delegation noted the unconstructive and unbalanced nature of the resolution that creates artificial obstacles to the further development of dialogue and cooperation.

The OSCE PA session concluded its work on 9 July.
