OSCE PA issues joint statement condemning escalation of Russian Federation’s war in Ukraine

COPENHAGEN, 10 October 2022 – Following the escalation of violence in Ukraine in recent days, OSCE Parliamentary Assembly President Margareta Cederfelt (Sweden) and two OSCE PA Special Representatives urged an immediate end to attacks on civilian infrastructure, the withdrawal of Russian forces from Ukraine, and renewed diplomatic efforts to end the war.

In a joint statement, President Cederfelt, Special Representative on Eastern Europe Daniela De Ridder (Germany) and Special Representative for Parliamentary Dialogue on Ukraine Reinhold Lopatka (Austria), said the following:

“The escalation of the Russian Federation’s war in Ukraine is unacceptable and must come to an end. This war has gone on far too long and in the interests of the civilians who are paying the highest price for this aggression, we demand its immediate cessation and an urgent creation of conditions for return to dialogue. The OSCE Parliamentary Assembly stands ready to assist any efforts to resolve the conflict based on OSCE commitments, with full respect to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine in its internationally recognized borders.”

President Cederfelt added that she has been in touch with members of the Ukrainian Delegation to the OSCE PA and conveyed the support of the Assembly to those who are directly affected by this war.
