International parliamentarians to report on observation of U.S. elections

WASHINGTON, 25 October 2010 – International election observers from the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE PA) will hold a press conference on Wednesday, November 3 at 2 PM at the Foreign Press Center, 529 14th St NW, # 800, Washington, DC, to issue its statement on their observation mission to the U.S. midterm elections.

Invited by the U.S. government, the international parliamentarians led by Joao Soares, member of the Parliament of Portugal, represent parliaments in 20 of OSCE’s participating states, including Russia, Georgia, Turkey, France, Italy, Germany, Greece, Poland, The Netherlands, Sweden, Denmark, and Norway.

The OSCE PA statement will be delivered at the press conference by Mr. Soares, following an introduction by the Parliamentary Assembly’s Secretary General, R. Spencer Oliver (United States).

The OSCE PA has 320 members from 55 countries, spanning an area from North America to Central Asia. It has monitored elections all over Europe and the former Soviet Union since 1993. It observed the U.S. elections in both 2004 and 2008.
