Baroness Christine Blower is a prominent British educator and trade unionist. Her career began in 1973 as a French teacher at Holland Park School in London, where she championed mixed-ability teaching to promote inclusivity. Over the years, she held various educational roles, including Head of Modern Languages and positions supporting at-risk youth. Her dedication to equitable education led her to become actively involved in the National Union of Teachers (NUT), where she served in multiple capacities, culminating in her election as the union's first female General Secretary in 2009. During her tenure, she led the NUT through significant campaigns, notably opposing standardized testing and the expansion of academies and free schools, advocating for teacher-led assessments and comprehensive education reforms.

Beyond her national contributions, Baroness Blower has been instrumental in international educational advocacy. From 2012-2020, she served as the President of the European Trade Union Committee for Education (ETUCE), the European branch of Education International, where she collaborated  with educators across the continent to promote quality education and uphold teachers' rights. In recognition of her extensive service and impact, she was appointed to the House of Lords in 2019 as Baroness Blower.
