Special Representative on Combatting Racism, anti-Semitism, Xenophobia and Discrimination

Pia Kauma SRTIMEA SZABO (HUNGARY)

OSCE PA President Pere Joan Pons (Spain) appointed Timea Szabo (Hungary) the Special Representative on Combating Racism, anti-Semitism, Xenophobia and Discrimination in September 2025. 

Szabo is a Hungarian politician, humanitarian worker, and journalist. After studying communications at the University of Szeged and conducting UN-related research at Harvard Law School, she worked with international organizations in Pakistan and Afghanistan on refugee and human rights programs, and later coordinated the refugee program of the Hungarian Helsinki Committee.

She co-founded Politics Can Be Different (LMP) in 2009, and in 2013 established Dialogue for Hungary (Párbeszéd), serving for years as its co-president and parliamentary group leader. Since 2018 she has represented Budapest’s 10th constituency in Parliament, where she is known for her strong advocacy on social justice, human rights, and democratic reform.  

 

MANDATE

  • Combat racism, anti-Semitism, xenophobia and discrimination within the OSCE region.
  • Promote inter-parliamentary dialogue on combating hate crimes and intolerance.
  • Encourage inter-faith dialogue and understanding across the OSCE region.
  • Liaise with relevant OSCE institutions and international organizations on anti-discrimination efforts.
  • Monitor developments related to hate crimes and intolerance in the OSCE region.
  • Advise the President on measures to promote tolerance and combat discrimination.
