GÁBOR HAJDU (ROMANIA)

Gábor Hajdu (Romania) was appointed Special Representative on National Minorities by President Pere Joan Pons (Spain) in July 2026.

Hajdu, an OSCE PA Vice-President and Romanian Member of Parliament with the Democratic Alliance of Hungarians in Romania (UDMR), is part of the UDMR Parliamentary Group in parliament and actively contributes to legislative work through his roles in two key standing committees: the Committee on Legal Matters, Discipline and Immunities, and the Committee on Constitutionality.

As OSCE PA Special Representative, Hajdu works to protect and promote the rights of national minorities across the OSCE region, including by raising awareness, encouraging parliamentary dialogue, and monitoring developments and advising the OSCE PA President on related policies, initiatives, and activities.

The Special Representative on National Minorities full mandate is as follows:

• Raise awareness of the importance of protecting and promoting the rights of persons belonging to national minorities as a cornerstone of security, democracy, and stability in the OSCE region.
• Promote parliamentary dialogue and co-operation to strengthen the protection of national minority rights, social cohesion, and inclusive governance.
• Liaise with OSCE institutions, particularly the OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities, as well as relevant international organizations and stakeholders on issues affecting national minorities.
• Monitor developments related to national minority rights, including emerging tensions that could undermine peace, security, and regional stability, and encourage parliamentary engagement in conflict prevention.
• Advise the President on policies, initiatives, and parliamentary activities related to national minorities, intercultural dialogue, and conflict prevention.

The role supports conflict prevention and intercultural dialogue until the end of the current presidency.
