The visit included meetings with the Deputy Minister of Interior Vassilis Petros Spanakis, Ambassador Evangellos Sekeris, Head of the D2 Directorate for NATO and OSCE at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Deputy Dimitris Kairidis of the Committee on National Defense and Foreign Affairs, and the First Vice President of the Hellenic Parliament, Deputy Ioannis Plakiotakis.

Throughout the meetings, Special Representative Hadjiyianni underlined the importance of strengthening regional co-operation, advancing parliamentary diplomacy, and supporting the Western Balkans in their Euro-Atlantic and European integration processes.

He provided an overview of his mandate and activities, emphasizing the role of the OSCE PA in promoting inter-parliamentary dialogue. “Parliamentary diplomacy is essential, and the OSCE PA provides a valuable platform for dialogue among elected representatives from across the region,” Hadjiyianni said.

The Special Representative also highlighted the progress of the Inter-Parliamentary Forum of South East European Delegations to the OSCE PA, launched nearly two years ago and already convened in Tirana, Podgorica, Kastoria, and Rome. He expressed appreciation to the Hellenic Parliament for hosting the Kastoria Forum in March 2025, describing the event as “a highly successful and productive example of how regional co-operation can be meaningfully advanced through the OSCE PA.”

Discussions in Athens also focused on current political, security, and social developments in the Western Balkans, including progress on reforms, cross-border co-operation, and the role of Greece as a promoter of stability in the region. Special Representative Hadjiyianni reiterated the OSCE PA’s commitment to supporting constructive engagement among neighboring states. “Greece, as one of the most economically developed country of the region and an EU member, plays an important role in supporting stability, development, and co-operation across South East Europe,” he said.

Meetings further covered municipal and regional co-operation, the work of OSCE field operations in the Western Balkans, and the importance of facilitating dialogue between parliamentary committees in the region.

Since his appointment as the Special Representative of the OSCE PA on South East Europe, Vice-President Hadjiyianni has paid visits to almost all capitals of the region over the past two years.
