New leadership elected to OSCE PA General Committees

2012-AS-First CommitteeLeft to right: Susanne Bratli (Norway), Vilja Aleknaite Abramikiene (Lithuania) and Asa Lindestam (Sweden).MONACO, 8 July 2012 – At the close of Sunday's meeting of the OSCE PA's General Committee on Democracy, Human Rights and Humanitarian Questions, Matteo Meccaci (Italy) was re-elected Chair of the Committee, Isabel Santos (Portugal) was elected Vice-Chair and Ann Phelan (Ireland) elected Rapporteur, all by acclamation.

In the General Committee on Political Affairs and Security, Asa Lindestam (Sweden) was elected Chair, and by acclamation Susanne Bratli (Norway) and Vilja Aleknaite Abramikiene (Lithuania) were re-elected Vice-Chair and Rapporteur, respectively. The election marks the first time that the leadership of an OSCE PA general committee is comprised entirely of women.

On Saturday, the General Committee on Economic Affairs, Science, Technology and Environment elected Serhiy Shevchuk (Ukraine) Chair, Roza Aknazarova (Kyrgyzstan) Vice-Chair, and Christos Stylianides (Cyprus) Rapporteur, all by acclamation.
