Organized jointly by the Parliamentary Assembly, the OSCE Secretariat, the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights, the OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media, and the Office of the High Commissioner on National Minorities, the event highlighted the work of participants in the 2025-2026 Regional Academy on the United Nations (RAUN) programme.

Opening the event on behalf of the OSCE PA, Jevrosima Pejovic, Vice-Chair of the Assembly’s General Committee on Political Affairs and Security and member of the OSCE PA Network of Young Parliamentarians, emphasized the importance of strengthening links between research, youth engagement and policymaking.

“At a time when the international community faces growing geopolitical tensions, rapid technological change, and increasing uncertainty about the future of multilateral co-operation, initiatives like this are more important than ever,” Pejovic said. “Effective policymaking requires not only responding to immediate crises, but also long-term thinking, serious research, and the ability to anticipate future risks and opportunities.”

Pejovic stressed that young researchers and policy experts play an important role in shaping discussions on security, democracy, governance and international co-operation. “Young people should not only be consulted about policies that affect them — they should help shape them,” she said.

She highlighted in particular the Assembly’s work through the OSCE PA Network of Young Parliamentarians, the recently established Parliamentary Dialogue Platform on Youth, Peace and Security, and the “School Dialogues” initiative implemented by PA’s Ad-Hoc Committee on Countering Terrorism.

Throughout the day, participants have presented policy papers on issues including water management, artificial intelligence in the defence sector, multilateralism, media freedom, disinformation, and security sector governance. The event aimed to facilitate dialogue across generations and sectors, demonstrating how youth-led research and innovative thinking can contribute to ongoing policy discussions and support international organizations in addressing emerging global challenges.
