Lars Løkke Rasmussen and Pere Joan Pons at the Munich Security Conference, 14 February 2026MUNICH, 14 February 2026 – OSCE Parliamentary Assembly President Pere Joan Pons (Spain) and Secretary General Roberto Montella have participated over the past two days in the Munich Security Conference, the world’s leading forum for debating international security policy.
During the conference, President Pons and Secretary General Montella engaged with several high-level officials and attended a series of thematic sessions, including high-profile panels on topics such as tariffs, rebuilding Gaza, and climate action.
“The Munich Security Conference provides an unparalleled platform for bridging divides and forging partnerships in an increasingly fractured world,” said President Pons. “Our engagement here reinforces the OSCE PA’s commitment to dialogue and parliamentary diplomacy as essential tools for building sustainable peace.”
President Pons attended the speeches by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Ukrainian President Volodomyr Zelensky and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, as well as a session entitled “Breaking Point: The International Order Between Reform and Destruction,” which provided an opportunity for interaction with Kaja Kallas, Vice-President and High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy at the European Commission, and Michael Waltz, US Ambassador to the United Nations. Pons also attended the session “Principled and Pragmatic: Wielding Power in a World in Disarray,” featuring Ursula von der Leyen and Sir Keir Starmer.
The President’s discussions have underscored the need to catalyze innovative solutions to complex challenges by bringing together influential leaders and thinkers to drive international security advancements, with a focus on regional stability, democratic resilience, and ongoing efforts to support peace in the OSCE area amid geopolitical tensions.

Notably, they met with US Senators Sheldon Whitehouse and Roger Wicker, as well as former US Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, to discuss critical issues in transatlantic security and parliamentary diplomacy.
They also had exchanges with Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen, High Representative for Bosnia and Herzegovina Christian Schmidt, European Parliament President Roberta Metsola, former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, former NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen, former Finnish Prime Minister Sannah Marin, and Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Bochorishvili.
The leaders further attended the Munich Ukrainian Dinner, a key side event highlighting solidarity with Ukraine and exploring pathways for humanitarian assistance and reconstruction in conflict-affected regions.
Held from 13-15 February in Munich under the theme “Under Destruction,” the MSC serves as a premier venue for diplomatic initiatives, fostering confidential dialogues across political divides to address the globe’s most pressing security concerns, including “wrecking-ball politics” and emerging threats to global stability.
President Pons will report on his participation at the MSC during the OSCE PA’s Winter Meeting, taking place 19-20 in Vienna.
