Chaired by Austrian parliamentarian Reinhold Lopatka, the meeting featured participation by Ambassador Tobias Lorentzson, Deputy Permanent Representative of the Delegation of Sweden to the OSCE, and Ambassador Alena Kupchyna, Co-ordinator of Activities to Address Transnational Threats at the OSCE Secretariat. In his remarks, CCT Chair Lopatka stressed the importance of OSCE parliamentarians building partnerships with the OSCE executive structures and other international organizations. “We are facing many challenges and there is clearly plenty of work ahead of us,” Lopatka said. “I believe it is extremely important to focus each time on where we can play a more prominent role, thus bringing a tangible contribution within the international community.”

To do so, Lopatka stressed the need to promptly tackle key threats as they arise and to strengthen partnerships within the OSCE and with other international actors.

“When taking measures to prevent and counter radicalization and terrorism, a comprehensive security and whole-of-society approach must be ensured,” said Amb. Lorentzson, representing the Swedish OSCE Chairpersonship. “Parliamentarians, as lawmakers and representatives of the public, play a crucial role in this regard.”
