Countering Terrorism

Since the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly’s 2002 Annual Session in Berlin, held under the theme “Confronting Terrorism: Global Challenge in the 21st Century,” the Assembly has increasingly worked to advance counter-terrorism efforts through field visits, participation in international fora, and exchanging best practices.

With a focus on cross-dimensional aspects of security – incorporating the political-military, economic and environmental, and the human dimensions – the PA has sought to support OSCE participating States’ efforts to develop effective and human rights-compliant responses to violent extremism, adopting over the years some 20 resolutions dealing with the issue. In July 2017, the Assembly established the OSCE PA’s Ad Hoc Committee on Countering Terrorism, which was tasked with promoting inter-parliamentary dialogue on issues related to countering terrorism.
