The OSCE Parliamentary Assembly is hosting a virtual parliamentary dialogue on 10 November 2021 from 14:00 to 16:00 (CET) on violence against women journalists and politicians.

Violence against women journalists and politicians remains a growing challenge within the OSCE region and in the world. While women have always faced serious challenges when participating in the public sphere, the past decade has witnessed an alarming rise in gender-based violence in the political and media fields, particularly in the online realm.

The goal of the 10 November event is to enable an open and thought-provoking exchange of experiences and observations while raising participants’ awareness of the growing crisis. The event will focus on examining the growing challenges and developments related to tackling gender-based violence against journalists and politicians within the OSCE region.

The event will livestream on Facebook and YouTube, and will include welcome remarks by OSCE PA President Margareta Cederfelt (Sweden), Secretary General Roberto Montella and OSCE PA Special Representative on Gender Issues Dr. Hedy Fry (Canada).

Panelists include:

  • Teresa Ribeiro, OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media
  • Mona Lena Krook, Professor of Political Science and Chair of the Women and Politics Ph.D. Program at Rutgers University
  • Saša Gavrić, Gender Officer, OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR)
  • Rumbidzai Kandawasvika-Nhundu, Senior Advisor for Democracy and Inclusion, International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance

The event will be wrapped up with concluding remarks by Special Representative Dr. Hedy Fry.
