Parliamentary Support Team for Ukraine highlights growing regional risks amid new Russian attacks and Belarusian escalation

COPENHAGEN, 2 June 2026 – The OSCE Parliamentary Assembly’s Parliamentary Support Team for Ukraine (PSTU), chaired by Nancy Faeser (Germany), has expressed its deep concern over recent developments that further heighten regional security risks stemming from Russia’s ongoing war of aggression against Ukraine.

In the days since the PSTU’s press release of 28 May, which addressed growing escalation risks, Romanian authorities and international partners have assessed that the drone which struck Romanian territory had entered its airspace in the context of Russia’s attacks on Ukraine. Meanwhile, damage was inflicted on a reportedly Turkish‑flagged cargo vessel sailing from a Ukrainian port.

In response, the PSTU issued the following statement:

“These incidents, together with continued large‑scale Russian strikes on Ukrainian infrastructure, increased reports of launches from or via Belarusian airspace and heightened alert levels in neighboring states, illustrate the widening spillover effects of Russia’s aggression.

The PSTU is also concerned by developments in Belarus, including the activation of selected Belarusian military units, the deployment of Russian Oreshnik missile systems and joint tactical exercises conducted by Russian and Belarusian forces.

We call on Russia to end its war of aggression against Ukraine, withdraw its forces from the entire territory of Ukraine and cease actions that endanger neighboring states. It further urges all parties to urgently pursue all avenues for de‑escalation. The PSTU reiterates its call for the immediate release of detained OSCE officials Dmytro Shabanov, Maksym Petrov, and Vadym Golda.

The PSTU will continue to monitor developments closely and support all efforts aimed at reducing tensions and restoring peace in accordance with international law.”
